Like the Italian "campanili", the bell tower of Saint-André cathedral in Bordeaux is separated from the main building on Place Pey-Berland since its construction, which began in the middle of the 15th century. The Pey-Berland Tower is not an exception in Gironde. It is nevertheless a sensation thanks to its sculpted facades.

Jacques Coeur was the richest man in the kingdom of France at the beginning of the 15th century. This merchant, ennobled by King Charles VII, nevertheless later fell into disgrace and died in exile. His house remains, however, the most beautiful gothic house in central France.
